Approaching The Fear Felt During Flight

A lot of people are able to fly on an airplane or jet with no problem at all. Then there are other folks who are just a bundle of nerves at the mere mention of flying. Some actually pass out in advance of ever even putting one foot on a plane. So why is it that flying triggers fear in so many men and women?

A new form of flight fear transpired for many people after 2011 and became centered not about the flight itself but on the vulnerability of being held captive in a plane by those who are dreaming of doing nothing but harm to everyone on board. While at the time this fear may have appeared like a realistic one for many individuals, it is actually something that has only occurred a handful of times, and is something that would be considered a fluke more so than a common incident.

Quite a few fear flying merely because of the elevation. Fear of heights is also very common and while it seems that most individuals can't even truly judge where they are or how high when they are up in the clouds, for many it is just the thought that they are up that high that stimulates the fear response from their body systems.

There are some others who don't like the motion. Many who attribute their fear of flying to a terrible in flight experience and even some that just get wacky because of the cabin pressure changes. These changes have been known to cause fear in some and anger in others. All in all, air travel can be tough on the body and perhaps it is merely because humans were not really built to fly.

Flying is just one of those things that people fear and yet it is also one of the safest modes of travel, so there is little to justify avoiding flying in an airplane especially if you are willing to ride in a car which has a much greater chance of taking your life.

Unfortunately, all the logic and statistics in the world cannot calm those who are scared to death of flying. At a given time anything can happen but flying definitely evokes fear in many people both young and old. No one seems to be immune to the fear of flying and whether it is a result of trauma suffered during a flight, a bad childhood experience, or merely over hyped up news exposure, fear of flying is real and something that is one of the greatest fears of mankind today.
