    Sherry R. Arnstein Minority Student Scholarship

    • Students self-identifying as African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Native Alaskan and enrolled in the first through third year at an accredited osteopathic medical school, or just accepted at such a school, may apply for the Sherry R. Arnstein Minority Student Scholarship. This scholarship, sponsored by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, honors a former executive director of AACOM. Both continuing and new students must submit an essay on future plans, what sparked the interest in osteopathic medicine, and how medical schools may recruit more minorities.

    Nova Southeastern University Scholarships

    • This Fort Lauderdale, Florida university offers several osteopathic medical scholarships, including the full-tuition Osteopathic Medical Manipulation Fellowships for second-year students, which pays for the third and fourth year of study. The Osteopathic Medical Chancellorship Scholarship goes to currently enrolled students demonstrating financial need and academic merit. Applicants must be Florida residents from an under served or disadvantaged background. Those without family members previously attending college receive preference.

    Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Scholarships

    • MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine offers several endowed scholarships for its medical students. Minority students may apply for the Margaret Aguwa, D.O. Endowed Scholarship, which awards $1,000 for the 2011 to 2012 academic year. Those planning a career in ophthalmology or neurology may apply for the Ida & Filomena Amici Endowed Scholarship, the amount of which varies from year to year. Primare care candidates may pursue the $1,600 Dr. James J. Davis Endowed Memorial Scholarship.

    Student Osteopathic Medical Association Scholarships

    • SOMA offers several scholarships for member students of osteopathy. These include the SOMA International Health Program Scholarships, which for the 2011 to 2012 academic year offer $500 for travel and room and board expenses for third and fourth year students planning an elective rotation in international medicine. The Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Scholarship awards $500 to a third- or fourth-year student utilizing osteopathic principles in practice. The The Ed and Melissa Loniewski Medically Underserved Scholarship awards $1,000 to a third or fourth year student serving those in need during an elective rotation.
