The How and Why of (Re)Purposeful Marketing

In my practice, you'd be surprised at how many business owners overlook or otherwise never consider some of these do-more-with-less tactics.
Quite simply, their minds are on matters of a more day-to-day nature.
Nevertheless, ensuring a consistent message and repurposing it across consumer channels is an important factor of success.
To rise above the clutter of competing messages, your message must be delivered more effectively.
What does this mean, exactly? It can mean that your efforts need to be more frequent.
You may need to craft your message more effectively.
Or, you may need to distribute your message across more consumer or media channels.
Duplicating or repurposing your content for use in multiple marketing channels is an inexpensive and easy way to rise above - and reach consumers in more than one place at one time.
It's also necessary in implementing a consistent and effective messaging theme.
As consumers come in contact with your message, each customer touchpoint provides an opportunity to engage and compel customers to take action.
Consistent marketing and advertising efforts which are unified across platforms helps reinforce your efforts.
It will also help create a seamless customer experience as you turn more prospects into more customers.
Ideally you should be able to repurpose your original message, idea or concept into the following complimentary or supportive materials.
These elements should be usable, for example, across some of these consumer touchpoint channels:
  1. Print advertisement
  2. Web page landing
  3. PowerPoint presentation
  4. Text and rich-media emailer
  5. PDF for email attachment and download
  6. Graphic or digital image element for banner
  7. Text excerpts for RSS, XML, Mobile Coupons, social media, etc
There are even more ways to repurpose your message, than I listed above.
If you've done a radio or cable TV commercial touting your features and benefits to your target consumers, repurpose it.
Have the video edited into various segments and posted to your website in Flash format.
These excerpts can aid you in creating effective customer affinity messaging to use for market segmentation pathways and in your e-mail marketing efforts to your prospects and clients.
You could also use the video for creating online banner advertisements for placement in reciprocal, vertical and/or horizontal partner and market-destination websites.
Being Everywhere is Possible and Easy! Nearly all types of printed material can be repurposed for use on the web and in e-mail.
Your content can be repurposed into PDF downloads or e-mailers, online PowerPoint presentations and Flash movies.
Likewise, print ads and flyers, PowerPoint presentations, graphs, charts, spreadsheets, Word documents and PDFs can all be integrated into your web presence.
They can be posted and used in your social media sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
Even a screen shot of your website can be printed, emailed and/or made into a cable TV commercial.
All of these repurposed items can be used for additional brand awareness, traffic generation, rapport-building tactics and distinct calls-to-action.
By simply repurposing your effective advertisements and messages, you can easily create a memorable communication strategy that keeps your message in front of your target consumers as they move across multiple media channels.
If you do it right, you will engage your consumers and they will reciprocate.
In fact, you'll discover that practically any content can be repurposed to reap maximum value on that effort, especially when it's tied-in to your main messaging theme.
Just step back and pretend you are the customer, for a minute.
Look at the recent purchases you've made on a personal and a business level.
What kinds of messaging techniques engaged and compelled you to take action and to ultimately buy? Now, look at your business, what kinds of messaging are you conveying to your customers? How are you repurposing that message to create a compelling and engaging call-to-action for them? What consumer channels are you messaging in?
