- 1). Machine wash and dry the fleece with laundry detergent only. Make sure you remove any chemicals that may be on the fabric from the factory before putting it on your baby's crib. Otherwise, your child may ingest them by chewing on the fabric rail guards.
- 2). Measure around the front top rail of the crib using a tape measure. Measure the length of the rail as well.
- 3). Add 8 inches to the circumference of the rail to determine the width of the fleece needed. Cut two pieces of fleece to the length of the rail with the width you just determined.
- 4). Put the two pieces of fleece together with the wrong sides of the fleece facing each other. Fold the pieces in half by bringing the long edges together.
- 5). Make 4-inch-deep cuts along the edges of the fleece opposite the folded edge. Make the cuts every inch. This creates a fringe along the long edges.
- 6). Drape the fleece over the front top rail of the crib so the rail rests in the fold of the fleece. Tie the corresponding pieces of fringe from the front and back of the rail together to tie the fleece around the rail. Cut away the pieces of fringe that lie in front and back of the crib's front vertical slats.
- 7). Create rail guards for the side and back rails using the same method you did to create the front guard. Take new measurements for these guards as the circumference and length differ between rails.
