Decorating a girl's room requires careful planning and thought in order to make it a success.
 It is the place she will spend much of her time and should be her place of refuge.
 The first thing you should do is listen any suggestions your daughter may have and discuss all of the options with her.
 It is important that she feels like she is driving this decorating project.
Start with the most simple of tasks to get her excited that the project is getting underway.
 Take a pen, paper and ruler in the room and sketch out the dimensions (length and width).
 The next thing you should do is discuss the items that are currently in the room.
 What will you be keeping, what will be thrown away and what will be donated.
 Set aside the time to get the room in order and removing the items that are not going to remain.
 Once this step is finished, you are ready to start planning for what will be added.

 Are you going to keep the existing bed or purchase a new one? If the old bed will be used, consider what kind of bedding you will purchase.
 This will help you set the theme for the room and help the rest of the decisions go much more smoothly.
 If you are purchasing a new bed, discuss what type of bed your child wants.
 Does she want a loft bed to give the room more space, a sleigh bed, etc.
Once you have selected the bed and / or bedding, you can begin to discuss the rest of the room.
 What furniture will be added, curtains, paint, etc.
 Use this time as a bonding period between you and your child.
