- 1). Determine whether you want Ashkenazi or Sephardi Tefillin. If you are of European or Russian descent, you most likely will want Ashkenazi Tefillin. Check in any store that sells Jewish books or has any other Judaica on display or for sale. Many synagogues have gift shops, and you may be able to find Tefillin there. Don't by shy about asking the local Rabbi where the best place to buy Tefillin is. Ask the Rabbi for advice not only on where to buy Tefillin, but what considerations he thinks are important in choosing Tefillin.
- 4). You can purchase Tefillin online, but it is the least advisable way to do so. It is best to purchase Tefillin after trying it on. Make sure the box sizes are comfortable and the feel of the leather is smooth on your skin. Tefillin must be comfortable and should not distract the wearer from his prayers by being itchy or uncomfortable.
