Established in 1987, Domaine Carneros is the stunning French chateau that greets you on your way from San Francisco to the Napa Valley in the core of Carneros. It literally sits halfway between Napa and Sonoma just off of the Carneros Highway. With an impressive architectural nod at its founder, Champagne Taittinger, the estate is a well known landmark along Highway 121. The majority of the sparkling wines and still wines are produced using estate grown fruit, which recently met all of California's requirements to be certified organic.
Wines to Try at Domaine Carneros
Domaine Carneros Brut Cuvee Sparkling Wine $27 - This is a classic California sparkling wine with plenty of apple and pear overtones and citrus-based foundations. Well-balanced with bright acidity, fine bubbles and a persistent finish that rides waves of decisive minerality, this cuvee delights from start to finish. A consistent sparkling wine, the Domaine Carneros Brut Cuvee offers tremendous quality year in and year out, making it one of my favorite "go-to" bubblies. Consider pairing this cuvee with spicy Chinese take-out, tempura shrimp, casual fare - like salty chips, buttered popcorn, or even veggie lover's pizza.
Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir 2010 - The cool Carneros climate is ideal for growing Burgundies best grapes, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the 2010 Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir showcases the ripe, red fruit of raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate with a swirl of pumpkin pie spice on the nose. The palate profile delves deeper into the fruit forward nuances of the wine, specifically highlighting rich cherry notes alongside a bit of bramble fruit and silky, well-woven tannins. A medium-body, nice acidity and a pleasing finish, make this a delicious Pinot Noir to try with mushroom risotto, roasted poultry, or cedar plank salmon.
