Types of Brand Waters

    Regional

    • In the United States, two consumer giants, Coca Cola and PepsiCo, market several brands of water to domestic and niche markets. Coca Cola markets over 3,300 beverages including water, juices, teas and energy drinks. The company produces bottled water for domestic and international consumers. For its U.S. consumers, Coca Cola manufactures Alhambra, Aquarius Spring, Dasani and Vitamin Water a top selling brand of "enhanced" water. Coca Cola also markets bottled water under various brands in countries like Greece and Spain. Pepsico's brand Aquafina is marketed in the United States.

    International

    • Competitive European water brands include Evian, which is the world's best-selling bottled water. Other international water suppliers include the Paris-based company Groupe Dannone and Nestle S.A., which is headquartered in Switzerland. Groupe Dannone markets several brands of water including Evian and Volvic. Nestle's leading brands include Perrier, S. Pellegrino, Poland Spring, Arrowhead and Deer Park. Nestle is the world's largest consumer packaged-goods company. In Europe, Nestle's leading bottled water Vittel is a mineral water from France.

    Categories

    • In a globally competitive market, water manufacturers promote their brands by targeting niche consumers and using unique selling points such as the bottling source and taste. Frequently used categories to differentiate water brands include carbonated or non-carbonated water, spring and mineral water as well as distilled, enhanced, filtered and oxygenated waters. These attributes play a significant role when it comes to branding water, and they help companies to differentiate between the benefits of one type of brand over the other.

    Price

    • The price of bottled water covers the cost of shipping and packaging as well as other related expenses such as marketing and retailing. Waters that are transported from exotic or distant regions of the world such as Iceland are bound to cost more than regional waters. In the United States, the price of bottled water is determined by size and source; the average price for domestic brands like Aquafina is .99 cents for 1 liter bottles. Imported brands like Evian cost $1.79 for 1.5 liters; Perrier costs $1.55 for 750 milliliters.
