- To prepare the PSD file for Blogger within Photoshop or any graphic manipulation program capable of opening PSD files, click "Layer" then "Flatten Image" to merge the header's layers into a single layer. Click "File" and "Save As." Click the down arrow next to "Format:" and click "JPEG," "CompuServe GIF," "BMP," "PNG" or "TIFF." Click the down arrow next to "Save in:" and navigate to the directory you want to save the header file in. Enter a new name in the "File name:" box, if desired, then click "Save."
- By saving the PSD file in another format, you maintain the PSD file in its original format so you can make changes later, if desired. Do not delete the PSD file -- keep it saved on your computer for editing later unless you know for certain you won't be changing your Blogger journal's header in the future.
- To maintain any transparent layers you may have within the PSD file, do not flatten the image but save it as a PNG file. The PNG file type compresses the image file but maintains any transparent layers and backgrounds.
- You can create as many header files as you want for your Blogger journal. Store each graphic file on your computer in a folder called "Blogger Headers," "Headers" or similar wording. When you want to change headers, navigate to your Blogger journal's "Dashboard" and click "Design" to enter the journal's editing mode. Click "Edit" under the "Header" wording then "Browse" to navigate to and upload one of your graphic header files. Do not select the "shrink to fit" option -- this will alter the size of your header file and make it look odd.
