Microsoft POS Help

    Set-Up and Usability

    • An advantage of many Microsoft (MS) solutions, POS or otherwise, is the familiar look, feel and functionality of their systems. The POS solution retains many of the standard MS options your employees are likely familiar with. The Store Set-Up Wizard walks new users through the initial set-up process step-by-step. Simply complete the information requested on each screen and hit "next." Once you have completed each of these steps, the initial set-up is complete. Intuitive wizards will help users set up the customized functions.

    Features

    • There are many features that make the Microsoft POS system appealing to retail business owners, including customizable screens and functions based on each user. For companies that currently use MS business solutions, the point of sale system integrates with the existing applications. Using the intuitive wizard tool, you select from a checklist of existing hardware systems you want the POS system to integrate with and check the appropriate boxes. To select which payment methods you want to accept and add applicable sales tax (if any), simply check the appropriate wizard application boxes. As your needs change, you are able to access the wizard to add or remove system integrations at any time.

    Additional Features

    • Among other critical functions provided by the Microsoft POS solution is the bringing together of both front and back end data. This is exemplified with the two views offered with the system, the employee and employer views. The POS view allows cashiers to process sales and look up inventory by simply hitting easily discernible icons. The manager view (looks just like Outlook) is accessed by hitting an icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Here manager's can review inventory and daily sales by employee, department or item.

    Resources

    • Whether questions arise during initial set-up or as the system is being utilized, Microsoft has resources available to help overcome these challenges. These support services include CustomerSource, an online customer-only site users can search for solutions to common problems. Updates and online training is also available. Microsoft also has trained "Microsoft Partners" around the country for in-person training. Microsoft partners support users in multiple ways; e-learning, off-site and on-site instruction is available.
