Bird Feeders to Attract "Pets"

There is something wonderful about the bird feeder.
Not only are they useful for feeding our feathered friends, but they bring them closer to us so that we may observe them and appreciate them.
Feeding the wild birds is almost like having a pet, yet giving that pet the gift of freedom at the same time making us feel as if we have a hand in their care.
Bird feeders are something that everyone can make use of, whether you have a large back yard, small garden, balcony or even simply attached to the frame of a window if no other space is available.
By selecting different types of bird feeders and different "feeds", you may draw many different types of birds to your feeder.
Some people enjoy hummingbirds that they can observe closely by hanging a hummingbird feeder directly outside a house window.
Other people enjoy watching birds at feeders while they are outside at a distance, perhaps positioning a feeder at the edge of a patio or porch.
If one sits very still, hummingbirds often come right up and hover in front of your face, almost as if they are displaying curiosity.
Also, if one is very quiet, you can hear the distinct humming sound their wings make that gives them their name.
Hummingbirds require nectar that can either be purchased or made simply at home from a water and sugar mixture.
No coloring is necessary and can indeed be harmful to the hummingbirds.
Of course there are the kinds of birds most attracted in the fall and winter that require a different kind of solid based feed with seeds and a different kind of feeder.
These feeders can come in a wide variety of designs, from feeders made to hang to pedestal and post feeders.
It is important to consider the local squirrel population when selecting a feeder for your area.
Squirrels can be rather crafty when raiding a feeder and will go to remarkable lengths to get the food.
Bringing colorful birds to your yard or patio is especially welcome in the sometimes dreary days of the winter months.
There is something wonderfully cheerful about seeing a brilliantly red cardinal sitting on the rim of a feeder in contrast to the vividly white snowy landscape.
Yellow finches and indigo blue birds can also create a beautiful winter scene in your own back yard or garden space.
One can enjoy a wide variety of birds at the same time by using different types of bird feeders and foods, all placed in separate areas of your garden or yard.
Seeing these birds come and use your feeders will give you an opportunity to photograph, film and/or just observe them in their natural state.
This can become a regular bird-watching hobby or a welcome inexpensive stress reducer in your life - enjoy!
