- 1). Create a new presentation or open an old one. Check for the Office icon, a group of four colorful squares at the top of the screen. Click that, select "New" to create a new presentation, then press "Blank Presentation" on the next screen. Click "Open" on that Office icon to pull up an existing presentation.
- 2). Open a template or theme. Click the Office icon, then "New." Choose "Installed Templates" or "Installed Themes" from the sidebar to view the various templates and themes offered by PowerPoint 2007. You can also choose a theme from the "Design" tab on the PowerPoint menu (also called a "ribbon").
- 3). Modify your chosen template or theme. Once you have chosen a template or theme, click "View" then "Slide Master" on the PowerPoint 2007 main menu. Double-click the slides that make up the theme or template on the left-hand sidebar. Here you can delete and add elements (like text boxes and pictures) to the background of each slide.
- 4). Insert images and text into each slide. Click "Insert" then "Picture" on the PowerPoint main menu to insert a picture into a slide. Click "Text Box" on the "Insert" menu to add text---all text in PowerPoint has to reside inside of a text box.
- 5). Set animation options. Click "Animations" on the menu bar. Here you can change the way the slide appears on screen (transition scheme), animate specific elements (like pictures and text), add sound and choose how fast the elements of the animation proceed.
- 6). Create slideshow. Click the "Slide Show" tab on the PowerPoint 2007. Select "Set Up Slide Show," then enter options, including which slides you want to show, whether the presentation should loop and how the slides and animations should advance (automatically or manually when you click them).
- 7). Save the PowerPoint file. When done, click the Office icon then "Save" on the main menu. Choose to save the file as a ppt (standard PowerPoint file) or pps (PowerPoint Show that loads into a slideshow as soon as it's opened).
