If you plan your major events by region then you will spend far less time traveling.
Once you have a general idea of what region you are going to spend the majority of your time in then you can plan to book your Hotel within the region.
One of the great things about Crete is that there are many fine Hotels throughout the regions.
Even if you are planning the majority of your events in one region you are going to want to take advantage of renting a car.
This will allow you to navigate around quickly and easily and if time permits you may want to go to a few of the other regions as well as this will allow you to do so hassle free.
Heraklion The events you are going to want to take in here to begin with will be the Palace of Knossos.
It is the most important landmark for the island of Crete and should be considered as one of the "must do" events when vacationing here.
Then to just take in some beautiful scenery you must see the Castello del Molo.
It is absolutely breath taking.
Hersonissos If you are looking for a little activity where you can become more actively involved then you may want to visit some of the dance clubs and discos to be found here.
Or for some shopping there are some neat specialty shops.
Throughout Crete If you prefer not to be so specific then just getting up in the morning and deciding what the day is going to entail can be most enjoyable as well.
For a great drive to an amazing destination you may want to consider Dikteon Cave which is believed to be Zeus' birthplace.
Or just for some interesting culture then check out the town of Gournia.
If you are into some exercise then you will no doubt enjoy the 4 hour trek through the Agia Irini Gorge.
