The town of Bideford - Devon, is in an area known as North Devon and is also known as 'The Little White Town'.
The name came from Charles Kingsley, a novelist from the Victorian era, who described the town as sloping up from the river.
There are parts of the town which are very historical, such as 'The Old Bridge' which links East The Water side of town to the town centre of Bideford.
This was constructed in 1280 by Theobald Grenville.
The bridge crosses the River Torridge and it is along this river that film Tarka The Otter was based.
Running along the river adjacent to the old bridge is Bideford Quay, from which you can catch the ferry, MS Oldenburg, this ferry takes passengers over to Lundy island, this is a very popular trip for hikers and nature lovers as there is a variety of wildlife that can be spotted on and from the island.
There are various pubs and places to eat out in Bideford, with the normal range of takeaways and restaurants such as Chinese, Indian, burger bars and fish and chip shops.
There are a couple of places that have recently opened up that feature tapas and other types of food on their menus.
You will find a lot of places to entertain the children also.
There are a couple of adventure parks within Bideford itself.
Both have soft play areas for younger children up to the age of ten, and additional features such as animals you can pet, rollercoasters, their own cafes and regular shows.
Bideford is well placed for visitors to travel to other tourist attractions in North Devon.
