Trial and Error Steps to Stop Snoring

Stopping the snoring

To stop snoring you want to try different snoring aids or cures and see which one works for you. What you might find is purely doing this approach; you may find your wasting time and money. A slightly different approach to pure trial and error is to determine the general snoring problem areas you may have. Snoring can come indirectly form nasal congestion or directly from congestion or obstructions to clear breathing in the mouth/throat cavity. Or from more serious indirect causes such as sleep apnea, sleep apnea is a condition were a person stops breathing for 9 to 10 secs and snoring is caused by them catching their breath. For the most part snoring is caused from vibrations in the soft palate (on the top of the mouth) and/or in the uvula (skin flap in the middle of the throat, in back of the soft palate).

Trial and Error

Taking a trial and error approach to the general areas you believe could cause your snoring is to ask. Do you have nasal/sinus congestion or even allergies? If you do by looking at ways to clear the nasal passages by sprays, antihistamines act, can be a good start. If these approaches don't clear the passages look to prescription steroidal nasal sprays for more stubborn cases of congestion. For obstructions to clear breathing in the mouth and throat cavity, look at sleep position from sleeping on the back to sleeping on the side. When your sleep on the back your tongue which can fall back in the throat could be partially obstructing breathing causing the snoring. Sleeping on the side causes the tongue to fall to the side away from the throat. If sleep position is not the answer (with no nasal congestion) consistor a OTC oral device that can help position your jaw, neck and tongue for more clearer breathing. Or a chin strap which helps you to simply breathe through your nose rather than the mouth. This device which you can find OTC straps around your chin to keep your mouth closed when sleeping. By trying these different approaches you should find solutions, if not that point you should seek guidance from a medical professional.

Who doesn't snore?

It has been reported from some sources that people that use their voices professionally or use their breathing apparatus in their work such as singers and horn players don't snore. There is no documented medical proof for this. However a study from Australia confirms that people that played a didgeridoo (a native wind instrument similar to a trumpet) have seen a reduction in their snoring.

Who does snore?

Most people have snored at one time or another. On a consistent basis studies indicate that a substantial amount of people snore, to 39 percent of males and 25 percent of females. While there is not a one hundred percent guaranteed cure for snoring (due to all the variables) many of the remedies listed above have helped many reduce or eliminate their snoring problem.
