While all programs that award Registered Nurse degrees require students to spend hands-on time in hospitals or clinics, hospitals with RN programs offered in-house make it easier for students to log clinical hours and also offer access to the expertise of an entire hospital staff rather than just the faculty of a university's degree program. According to the website, Education Portal, there are currently about 100 hospitals nationwide with RN programs. - Washington Hospital Center, in Washington, DC, offers an RN residency program aimed at allowing experienced nurses to expand their knowledge base by branching into subspecialties and allowing those with under one year of experience to build on their expertise. Nurses wishing to study specialties through this program can choose from fields such as perioperative services, oncology services, cardiac services, women and infant care, and emergency department care.

whcenter.org - Along with its regular RN program that provides a mix of clinical and classroom hours, the University of Colorado Hospital offers a program that specifically caters to medical professionals who wish to become Traveler RNs. Traveler RNs travel from one clinical location to the next, staying for 13 weeks at each assignment. Since the program---which includes a housing stipend and travel reimbursement---is open only to non-Colorado residents, this is an ideal way for a nursing professional to experience the state of Colorado. Some of the locations to which students are sent include housing.
