- No established standards apply to mobile surveillance training programs. Most are provided by private security training institutions, using former police and military. To check out the company that offers the training, ask for documentation of its placement rates and for the names of alumni to call. Ask local police about the company as well.
- A variety of surveillance courses operate in the United States because the nation has many "special operations" people who have retired from active service and moved on to teaching the craft. Police academies also provide surveillance training to their cadets.
- Mobile surveillance training generally covers planning, coordination, tactics and techniques, operational security, assets and resource management. A reputable course will set aside a large part of the total course time for practical exercises in the street.
