Can A Moving Blanket Help Two Residence Homeowners?

My in-laws own a home near Burnsville, NC and another in Tampa, FL.
After living most of their adult lives in the Midwest and raising children in the frigid temperatures of Iowa, they escaped to Florida late in their working years to avoid the hassle winter weather brings Midwesterners.
The adage "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" became a reality for them, as their bodies were unaccustomed to the soaring temperatures and thick humidity.
They soon looked for an escape from the summer sweatbox, planning ahead for their incumbent retirement years.
Fortunately they were able to buy a second home, and now they spend their summers in the relative cool of North Carolina and their winters in the relative warmth of Florida.
They've learned to take extra precautions with whichever home happens to be vacant.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, one of their tactics includes a simple moving blanket.
My in-laws Florida home is actually a condominium, and it has a very large south-facing window.
In the harsh summers, the sun streams inside almost all day.
My mother in law was fearful the sun would fade the carpet and couch, despite the blinds and curtains she used.
When preparing for their annual trek to North Carolina, she followed the advice of a friend and purchased a large moving blanket.
She placed this moving blanket over the curtain rod inside the window.
The transformation was almost instant; the dense moving blanket completely blocked the sun's rays which only moments before had streamed through the window.
A bonus benefit is that any casual passerby cannot see inside the window.
So yes, a simple moving blanket can help those who own two homes.
