- 1). Remove the power source for the router.
- 2). Loosen the depth lock and pull the base back toward the router's motor. Tighten the depth lock to hold the base still near the motor.
- 3). Push the collet lock pin into the router's shaft to secure the collet.
- 4). Hold the router sideways. Loosen the collet's locking nut using a collet wrench to release the grip on the currently installed bit. Slide the old bit out of the collet.
- 5). Wipe the shank of the multiform router bit and the interior of the collect with a clean rag to remove any residue or debris. Pull any debris out of the collet rather than forcing it farther in.
- 6). Insert the multiform bit into the collect until it strikes the stop at the bottom. Slide the bit back out by 1/16 to 1/8 inch. Ensure that at least 3/4-inch of shank remains in the collet.
- 7). Tighten the collet nut to tighten the collet around the multiform bit's shank. Avoid overtightening the collet. Make sure the collet's grip is firm but not overly so.
- 8). Reset the depth of the router base to fit the new tool. Tighten the depth lock once you establish the new height of the router.
- 9). Adjust the speed setting on the router to match the recommended speed of the multiform bit.
