Painting your baby daughter's room is an excellent way to get ready to welcome her into the world. A well painted room will give you and your daughter a pleasant place to read, play games and bond together as she experiences the first years of her life. Choose gentle colors and playful themes to set the right tone for a happy childhood. - Just because you are building a nursery for your baby girl doesn't mean pink is the only option. Look at a range of soothing pastels, including pink, beige, baby blue and pale turquoise. If the baby's room is small, paint it two tones, with pastel walls and a white or off-white ceiling, to give it a feeling of spaciousness. Alternately, only paint the lower half of the wall pastel, and paint the upper half white to give the room more lift.
- Jazz up your baby girl's nursery with some simple wall stencils. Paint abstract shapes, such as circles or stars, in a variety of colors to add interest and stimulation to your baby's environment. Alternately, stencil more complex shapes, such as bears and princesses, to decorate the room. If you feel really ambitious, paint a mural on the wall. Project an image on the wall with an overhead projector, trace the lines with a pencil, go over them in black paint and paint the spaces in between with the appropriate colors.
- Use stripes as an easy way to add pattern and space to your daughter's room. Vertical stripes make a room look taller, while horizontal ones make it look wider. Use stripes as a way to echo other features of the nursery. For example, paint your crib blue, and paint blue stripes on the wall with the same width and spacing as the bars on the crib. Paint stripes on toy shelves and tables to make them blend more seamlessly with the rest of the room.
- Take your baby daughter's nursery in a more literary direction by painting female children's literature protagonists on the wall. Paint murals of Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Olivia from the Olivia books or other stars of kids' fiction. As your daughter grows older and you start to read to her, you can add new characters from her favorite books.
