- 1). In addition to the usual information about your name, address, and level of education, identify for your prospective employer the state in which you obtained your CDL, and which class you hold. Also identify any additional licenses you hold. This might include Class C, which allows you to drive buses or vehicles carrying hazardous materials.
- 2). Present a resume in which you mention all the vehicles you have driven before, such as tow trucks, dump trucks, 16-wheel semis, or other construction vehicles. Class B vehicles are smaller construction vehicles such as tow trucks, garbage trucks, or cement trucks. Class A vehicles are larger, 16-wheel semi-tractor trailers.
- 3). List in your resume all the companies you have worked for and mention your duties. These duties help explain what responsibilities you had for the vehicle.
- 4). If you have a clean driving record, highlight this fact. Preferential treatment is given to such drivers, since it is more expensive for a company to insure drivers with tickets or other violations on their record.
