Tips For Employees Dealing with Workplace Harassment and Bullying - Part 2

There should be clear procedures and policies within your organization to ensure that workers do not continue to suffer workplace harassment and bullying and that the issues are resolved suitably.
This is a stressful time for employees involved in the situation but there are ways which workers can achieve some relief from the affects of the situation until things are resolved fully.
Things you can do now as a worker: oPlan your strategy of getting through the situation; make a list of ways to take care of yourself and to deal with the feelings which arise in you.
oBuild up your self esteem; the impact of the issues you are dealing with might knock your self esteem and this might effect your work as well as your coping mechanisms.
You may benefit from getting "re-grounded" and doing simple and effective exercises either with support or on your own.
Mentors or coaches may help you with this by looking at what your skills are and encouraging you to reconnect to what made you enter your profession or what made you become a manager.
oEnsure that you create structures around you that help to look after you: This can be especially important of you are not able to discuss the issues with your peers or you are not getting appropriate support form your manager.
Such structures would include support groups were you can speak with people who may be going through the same or similar issues as you; friends who are supportive and can be considered about the issues.
oCounseling if appropriate for you some short term therapeutic work could be offered to get you through the situation.
Many organizations offer work based employment counseling schemes which are confidential or you could ask you medical practitioner to suggest an appropriate counselor for you oStress relieving techniques in work are beneficial especially if you have to go into meetings to discuss the matter or if you still have to have some kind of contact with the other party.
Some organizations offer relaxation techniques to staff but there are also self administered techniques which will create immediate relief if practiced such as acupressure, affirmations, deep breathing and office yoga.
Which one of these actions can you take tomorrow to support your through the process?
