- 1). Grab the installed shift knob in your car and turn it counterclockwise. The knob unscrews from the threaded shifter stick beneath.
- 2). Unscrew the screws on the base of the shifter console near the floor of the vehicle. There is one on each side of the console. Press the center of the plug clips, on the console base, if present. Use firm pressure to loosen the top and lower panel of the console. Wiggle the console panels to free the cover from the clips that secure it, but do not remove the console completely, as this may damage the wiring. Use caution not to damage the clips.
- 3). Look between the shifter console and your dashboard for wire harnesses. Unplug any wire harnesses between the dashboard and the shifter console. This may include connections to the cigarette lighter, radio or other accessories, depending on the model of your car. Next, pull the shifter console panel upward, toward the roof of the car, and set it aside. This exposes the rectangular shifter body. Depending on the model of your car, it is metallic or high-density plastic.
- 4). Determine the size socket required for the bolts that secure the shifter body. Place a socket over the nut to see if it fits. Attach the appropriate sized socket to your ratchet and then remove the four bolts, one on each corner of the shifter body.
- 5). Lift the center body slightly to see the pins or clips and the cable that connects it to the car. Remove the pins with your hand. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the clip attachments to pop them free. Disconnect cables by pulling them with your hand firmly. Finally, remove the shifter body from the shifter bed and set it aside.
- 6). Place the buddy club shifter into the shifter bed and reverse Steps 1 through 5 to connect the new shifter to your car. Screw the Buddy Club shift knob clockwise on the tip of the shifter stick to finish the installation.
