If you are thinking of buying a puppy there are a few very important things you need to consider before proceeding.
If you cannot answer yes to the following questions you should certainly think again about whether a dog is the right kind of pet for you.
1.
Can I really afford to keep a dog? As well as buying a puppy and feeding it, you have to take into account the cost of possible veterinary fees.
2.
Do I have the time or inclination to exercise a dog every single day? 3.
Can I give a puppy the care and attention it will need for the rest of its life? Dogs can live for up to 20 years.
That will require a very big commitment from you.
4.
Will there be someone at home most of the day to keep the dog company? Dogs are social animals and do not enjoy being left on their own for lengthy periods.
If you still intend to go ahead the next thing you need to consider is what is the right type of dog for you? There are well over two hundred different breeds and each has its own characteristic.
Somewhere out there will be the right type of dog for you.
Perhaps the best way to choose which breed is most suitable for you is consider your own personality and habits.
Are you energetic and lively? or do you like to take things easy? Are you strong willed and can handle a larger type of dog? Do you like socialising and meeting new people? Never buy a puppy on looks alone.
If you are interested in a particular breed always ask the breeder what the typical personality traits are likely to be when the puppy is fully grown.
