- 1). List all the items you want to include on your registry. You can find a wide variety of books offering suggestions on what to register for, but the final list will ultimately depend upon your own personal needs and wants. Make small notes next to the items indicating specifics that you want to look for. For example, rather than simply listing a Crockpot, determine what size Crockpot you want.
- 2). Go window shopping at the stores you want to register at. Any time you find an item on your list in that store, make a note of it. Use different colored pens or pencils for each store to make it easier to note which stores carried the most items that you were interested in. Note details such as prices, colors and features so you will remember which store had the best tableware or the most affordable car seats when you go back over the list later.
- 3). Note which store had the best option for each item. This should help you quickly narrow down your registry to just a few stores. You may want to recopy your list at this point, clearly indicating where you want to register for each item.
- 4). Register for the items on your list at the store determined in the previous step. If you see items that were not included on your list that you'd like to add to the registry, feel free to branch out. Get a printed copy of each registry as you complete it so you can refer back to the previous registry as you continue with the next one.
- 5). Review your completed registries carefully for duplicates. If you notice duplicate items, go back to one of the stores or visit their webpage to edit your registry. Once you've carefully reviewed each list, you can start spreading the word about where your registries can be found.
