- 1). Use a front-loading washer and dryer. They are common in Europe and allow for extra storage room above. If you purchase the smaller models, you will be able to install a countertop above the machines to gain counter space. Buying a smaller version also allows you to conceal the washer and dryer behind kitchen cabinet doors or curtains.
- 2). Draw some plans of your kitchen first and measure your washer and dryer to see how much space they will take up before you try and incorporate them into the same room.
- 3). Use a stacking washer and dryer. This is perfect for a kitchen that is really tight on space. A stacking washer and dryer can fit easily behind doors, away from view.
- 4). Use a combination washer and dryer. Having only one unit in the kitchen will save even more space. You will not be able to do large amounts of laundry at one time, but this presents a good solution if you have very little room in your kitchen.
- 5). Invest in some clever, space-saving storage. You can use roll-out drawers or add shelving above your washer and dryer unit for storing laundry items.
- 6). Refill jars or glass containers with laundry detergent and soap. This will save you from having to store a large container in your kitchen. Refill it as needed.
- 7). Purchase a rolling cart that you can move nearer your washer and dryer during laundry time. You can store any laundry paraphernalia in it and keep it out of the way when you don't need it.
- 8). Move your washer and dryer into the pantry. If you have a large pantry area and can store your food in a kitchen cabinet, you will be able to store your washer and dryer there instead.
- 9). Hire a plumber to install an extra washing machine hookup. Having a washing machine in your kitchen will necessitate extra plumbing for hot and cold water and drainage.
