Look What You Are Talking

Your words are the thoughts which will mould the personality of your
child in a positive or a negative way.

You may make casual comments while talking but these comments send specific message to your child. These messages may help in developing in your child a healthy or a negative attitude towards life and people. So be careful what and how you are talking.

Do you criticize people in front of your child? : Your guests leave and you remark how boring they were or how badly the lady was dressed up. This remark will make your child construe that people are hypocrite. Think before you criticize your boss, your friends, relatives or anybody.

What qualities do you value in people? : Praising the hard work, perseverance or talent of people around you will make your child value these qualities. On the other hand if the expensive clothes or good looks is what you keep appreciating, your child too will give importance to these attributes only.
Do you act selfish? : When your child asks you why are you helping a friend and you tell him because he'll help you to fetch a business deal, your child will also adopt the materialistic approach towards people. Even though you don't mean to, you are engraving in your child's mind 'First think what you'll get in return and then act.'

Do you look down upon people? : Do you react differently with a rich and with a not so rich person? Do you avoid people who are not of the same status? Do you misbehave with people who are your subordinates or belong to a lower class? Don't be surprised if someday your child tells you he won't play with a child because his house is not big!

Do you respect people? : We may often taunt, use satire or even shout while talking to people we want to hurt. Disrespecting the feelings of others will become a way of dealing with people your child doesn't like. Think before you speak, your words can leave a lasting impression on your child's mind.
