Altitude sickness is something that happens to many people on one degree or another.
For some it's just a mild headache while other people feel extremely sick.
There are things that you can do about this so that you can feel better and more comfortable.
When you are traveling to a place with a much higher elevation be sure that you gradually increase the height.
For example spend the first day in the location at a lower height before going up even higher.
This will let your body get used to it.
Drink plenty of water.
Being properly hydrated will help you feel better when you get the symptoms.
Getting dehydrated will make you feel even worse and make the symptoms worse.
Do plenty of cardio before your trip trying to get into better shape.
Those who are physically fit can handle less oxygen much better since the system is more efficient.
This isn't always the case but being fit will make you feel better.
Try not to do anything physically demanding the first few days visiting higher elevations.
Try not to hike or ski that much at all else it will make you feel even worse.
Just relax a few days to get used to the environment first.
Eat more calories especially carbohydrates while in higher altitudes.
This does make many people feel better.
Most people on vacation are already eating more calories as it is so this probably should not be a problem for you at all.
Take medicine that is designed for altitude sickness.
There are many over the counter medicines that will help you with this problem.
Find out what works for you.
Know who to call if your symptoms become severe.
This is especially important if you are overseas.
At times altitude sickness can cause some serious complications so you need to know who to call.
