- 1). Place a strip of low-tack paint on surfaces next to the cabinet. Use a rag to burnish the tape and help it adhere.
- 2). Protect the floor and other surfaces with drop cloths. Use a canvas drop cloth for floors. Plastic sheets keep paint spatters off horizontal surfaces, like counter tops.
- 3). Take any drawers out of their slots. Remove the drawer pulls.
- 4). Take the doors off the cabinet by removing the screws from the hinges. Unscrew the door handles.
- 5). Choose a black latex paint in the finish of your choice. Stir the paint with a stir stick to disperse the pigment.
- 6). Paint the central area of a paneled door first using a small roller. Smooth the paint with a flat brush. Brushstrokes should match the direction of the wood. Switch to the angled brush to paint the beveled edge. Work your way to the outer frame of the door. Keep your brushstrokes smooth by dragging each final stroke towards the area you just painted.
- 7). Place the door on a can to paint its outer edge. Wipe the back edge clean with a damp rag. Use a toothpick to remove paint from drilled hardware holes.
- 8). Finish all the doors. Paint the drawers following the same procedure.
- 9). Roll the paint on the cabinet frame with your small roller. Use the angled brush to paint areas that the roller cannot reach.

Allow the paint to dry. Reattach the doors. Place the drawers back in their slots. Be careful not to scratch the fresh paint. Put the doorknobs and drawer pulls back in place.
