How to Run Speakers Through a Subwoofer

    • 1). Cut two pieces of speaker wire for each speaker you'll connect to the sub, stripping 1/2-inch of insulation from each end.

    • 2). Connect a pair of wires from a pair of speaker terminals on the AV receiver to the input terminals on the back of the sub. On the end of each wire, one strand connects to the red terminal on the receiver and sub, and the other connects to the black terminals.

    • 3). Hook up the second pair of speaker wires from the output terminals on the sub to the back of each speaker.

    • 4). Plug in the subwoofer cable from the receiver's sub "out" to the input jack on the rear of the subwoofer.

    • 5). Turn on the power to the receiver and subwoofer.

    • 6). Adjust the volume knob on the sub and set the crossover knob to the desired frequency. All audio signals at or above the frequency setting will be directed to the speakers wired to the sub. All frequencies below the setting will be produced by the subwoofer.
