How to Fix the Image Retention in a Dell 50 Plasma

    • 1). Turn your projection TV off if it appears that an image that was left on the screen has been retained. Leave the TV off for several minutes and allow it to cool down. Turn it back on and check to see if the burn-in still exists or if it has dissipated at all.

    • 2). Watch other programming unrelated to the image that was originally retained by your projection TV if the effect persists. Watch another channel or an unrelated DVD for an hour or two, ensuring the images on-screen change fairly frequently; then reexamine your TV's screen. This may ease the burn-in effect and eventually allow it to fade away.

    • 3). Create static on your display intentionally by disconnecting the black coaxial cable from the "ANT IN" port on the rear of your cable or satellite receiver. Disconnecting this cable will interrupt the television signal being sent to your projection TV, and white and black dots will rapidly move across your display. No other imagery will be seen. Allow this static to play for as much as several hours; then return to the TV and check for burn-in. The effect may have been erased.

    • 4). Access the menu on your projection TV by using the "Menu" button on the remote control or the face of the television. Select the "All White" or "Screen Wipe" listing from this menu, if it is available. This will enable a special screen mode that will eradicate burn-in, so leave this on for an hour or two. Restore the projection TV to its previous state by canceling the "All White" or "Screen Wipe" session after enough time has appeared to expire; then back out of the menu and test the display.

    • 5). Decrease the brightness of the television under the "Brightness" listing within your TV's menu. This will help to slightly combat future potential image retention. Additionally, plasma TVs become less receptive to harmful image retention after the first six months or so of ownership, so time is a factor as well.
