Paint

• 1). Lay a sheet of plastic down on the work surface to protect it from the paint.
  
  
• 2). Paint the plate rack with a paint brush. Apply an even coat of paint and let it dry.
  
  
• 3). Apply a metallic gold glaze to the paint rack with a small rag. Dab the glaze on the paint rack, twisting your hand so the pattern of the rag creates a random texture to the paint rack. Let the paint rack dry overnight before you use it.
  
  

Decoupage

• 1). Tear decorative papers into strips of random sizes and shapes.
  
  
• 2). Paint the plate rack with decoupage medium.
  
  
• 3). Lay the decorative paper pieces over the plate rack. Turn the papers so they're applied in random ways and going in all directions.
  
  
• 4). Paint another layer of decoupage medium over the entire plate rack, sealing the paper to the plate rack.
