Great Christian Books for Women

Whether it's a Mother's Day gift you're looking for, a birthday gift for Mom, or just a great new book to read for yourself, try one of these Christian books for women.

1. The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer

The Resolution for Women was written in cooperation with the popular Sherwood Pictures' film, Courageous, released in theaters September 2011. Currently enjoying sixth place on the Christian Booksellers Association top 50 bestselling books list, The Resolution for Women uniquely challenges women to embrace God's calling with purpose. The book sets out to inspire change in three ways. First, to be "authentically me, purposefully feminine, surprisingly satisfied, and faithfully His." Second, the author invites women to focus on "my best, my blessing, my honor, and my heart." And lastly, the book encourages women to joyfully honor God as wives, mothers, and family members who resolve to live gracefully while leaving behind an eternal legacy.More »

2. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

One Thousand Gifts started as a dare. The book's subtitle reads: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are. After losing her younger sister and two infant nephews, Ann Voskamp understood what it meant to experience deep dark grief. Then a friend challenged Ann, a busy mother of six, to name one thousand blessings--not things she wanted, but gifts she had already received. This began her journey of healing and discovering great joy and blessing in God's small, daily gifts of grace.

In its hardcover pages, Ann explores how to find fulfillment and heart-felt gratitude through life's simple, everyday moments of grace. The gift book features photography from Ann's own life in the countryside along with powerful passages from her memoir, One Thousand Gifts.More »

3. Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst

In Made to Crave, Lysa TerKeurst urges women to embark on a journey into the raw places of the heart and soul. She asserts that there, deep in our heart of hearts, we are all hard-wired to crave: "We were made to crave—long for, want greatly, desire eagerly, and beg for—God. Only God." The book is not a step-by-step diet plan, but rather, as I said, a journey. The goal is to understand how to satisfy our deepest desires with God, not food. I'm not even half way through, and honestly, I believe I've been searching for this message all of my life. I've said to one of my closest friends over and over again, "I don't want to just lose weight. I want to get to the underlying reasons that have caused me to struggle with food issues and being overweight for as long as I can remember. I want to be free." I have hope for the first time that I've found the path to freedom.More »

4. 31 Days to a Younger You by Arlene Pellicane

31 Days to a Younger You is a great accompaniment to your daily devotions. I found that a chapter a day fit perfectly into my quiet time with God each morning. I was encouraged to take an honest, balanced look in the mirror, at body, soul, and spirit, and let the Lord make some much needed "home improvements." The book held nothing truly earth-shattering, no profound revelations, and nothing I haven't already learned along the way, but it did offer practical, positive reinforcement for living a more active, healthy, and holy life-after-40. Each chapter promotes time for self-examination with a "Thought for Rejuvenation" and an "Act of eXpression," along with several useful beauty tips throughout the book.More »

5. Her Mother's Hope / Her Daughter's Dream by Francine Rivers

One of my favorite Christian fiction authors, Francine Rivers has penned another saga spanning multiple decades in a two-book tale exploring the complex relationship between a mother and daughter. You'll journey three generations from Switzerland through Europe and eventually to Canada and the United States. The women face challenges, tragedy, and war, as they learn the lessons of unconditional love and sacrifice. Although barriers threaten to divide them forever, with God's grace and forgiveness they rebuild bridges of healing. With her usual skill, Francine Rivers does so much more than entertain with these two books. She drew me into the lives of these strong, flawed, genuine women of faith, and, through laughter and tears, taught me heartrending lessons about love, sacrifice and forgiveness.

6. The Edge of the Divine by Sandi Patty

Throughout her life and career, Sandi Patty has been through a lot. As I read my copy of The Edge of the Divine, I was able to appreciate many beautiful gems of encouragement formed by her experiences. Through counseling and the support of family and friends, Patty has overcome the secret shame, depression, false perceptions, and other damaging effects brought on by a traumatic, early childhood experience of abuse. She has also persevered in the face of abandonment, ridicule, and rejection from the Christian community after a painful and public moral failure. Her new book offers many insights into living as a resilient, healthy, and free woman of God. As a caution, I had mixed emotions about The Edge of the Divine. As a woman who has struggled with being overweight most of my life, I found myself conflicted about the issues surrounding a surgical solution to weight loss. While lap-band surgery may be the path to a healthier and more victorious life for Sandi Patty, the book does little to encourage women who find the surgical option either beyond the reach of possibility, or outside the realm of God's will for them.More »

7. Women on the Edge by Cindi McMenamin

Are you on the verge of a meltdown? Beyond frustration, do you feel like you're under attack from all sides? This book is for women whose lives are teetering on the edge of devastation. Women on the Edge affirms that we weren't made simply to survive life hanging on by a thread. God intends for us to thrive abundantly, and we begin by turning our desperation and hopelessness into desire for God. More than anyone, the Lord knows what we're going through. He wants us to surrender our control and every inclination to him. Learn how to step back from the edge and into the arms of a loving, trustworthy Savior.More »

8. Finding Grace: A Memoir by Donna VanLiere

Few women make their way into adult life without at least one heartbreak. Many of us know all too well what it means to suffer painful losses of unanswered prayers and broken dreams. If you've ever questioned where God was or what he was doing in the most difficult moments of your life, you will relate to this true and inspiring story. If you haven't yet found peace, this book will help you encounter the grace needed to live, laugh and love beyond the heartache. VanLiere wrote the bestselling Christmas Hope series, a collection of Christmas gift books. Finding Grace makes a great Mother's Day gift; however, if you decide to wrap it up for Mom, I'd recommend accompanying it with a supply of tissues.More »

9. Becoming the Woman God Wants Me to Be by Donna Partow

Almost every Christian woman I know longs to be a "Proverbs 31 Woman." Well, this book is a 90-day guide for becoming just that—the woman God has made you to be. Partow's approach touches all areas, including the physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational aspects of a woman's life. It is biblical, practical and relevant to the issues and time demands of women today. Faith, family, fitness, appearance and fashion, finances, household management, ministry, and business are all covered along the way of this path toward a more fulfilling and purposeful life.More »
