- 1). Examine the bedroom to determine the intensity of the light you would like and its placement. Also consider if there are color matters to address. For instance, a decor that features fall or warm colors might benefit from incandescent light, or light from a CFL with a lower color temperature. Cooler schemes more readily can tolerate intense light.
- 2). Select fixtures that light specific areas. For instance, a shaded bedside table lamp that points light primarily downward is a utilitarian choice. It can be adequate for bedside reading and won't overwhelm the room. For more light from such a source, consider a halogen light, which has the advantage of being small. A little bit of light in a small room goes a long way, and lighting even a few spots can give the space a bright feel.
- 3). Select lights for tasks or other purposes as needed. Consider a light inside a closet if it is large enough. In addition, a light above the mirror for dressing is helpful, and doesn't need to be on all the time.
- 4). Consider a sconce lamp for decorative purposes. They are low-wattage and work well as a safety light while adding an elegant touch to the room.
