How to Recognize Mercer Disease

    • 1

Look for signs of a rash on the skin.

Often mercer disease will start as a collection of bumps or small blisters and become puss filled. For other patients it presents itself as flaking of the skin known as erythroderma. If it is a small and locally limited infection watch it for a few days to be sure it does not worsen.

    • 2). Look for any red, warm, swollen areas on the skin.

These signs of infection are also clues to the presence of a staphylococcus bacteria. Mercer disease often starts with painful rashes of this sort. Noticing them, monitoring them, and reporting them to your care provider are all keys recognizing and treating mercer disease.

    • 3). Take note of any muscle or bone pain.

Though these symptoms can point to other conditions than mercer disease. However, together, along with recent exposure to a health care facility or another victim of mercer disease highly raises the likelihood you have contracted the bacteria. Since some strands of mercer disease are highly resistant to antibiotics and can be fatal, you want to keep a close watch.

Report any symptoms that resemble the flu.

Vomiting, nausea, headaches, diarrhea and other flu like symptoms can indicate that the staph infection known as mercer disease has infected more than just the skin, often the lungs in this case.

If you suspect a staph infection for any reason, consult quickly with your physician.

This article will not give you an official diagnosis and certainly cannot offer treatment for mercer disease. Careful observation and use of effective antibiotics will be necessary. The sooner you speak to your physician about your suspicions of mercer disease the more effective your treatment options will be in stopping its spread.
