All I can say is, Thank Heavens for characters like Viki Davidson. Boy, in the midst of all the sadness, grief, fist fighting and revenge at work on One Life to Live last week, she was the most refreshing part of the week and gave me something to smile about. I know she has the time coming to her, but I really feel the loss when Viki is not around for all those weeks during her summer vacation. I know we get a smattering of scenes every now and then, but there?s nothing like what she does to every scene she is in and we need her around on a very regular basis.
I guess I have to start with Viki and David. Oh Lordy, could I have laughed any louder or harder? Somehow, Viki and David on screen together always mean tons of hysterical chemistry. David is so irreverent and Viki is such a proper lady. Can I just say WOWWWW?!!!! When Viki let herself into Dorian?s kitchen and David walked in wearing only his skivvies and a smile, I nearly hyperventilated. Now, you may ask why I lost my breath, so I will tell you. First of all, it was more than hysterical to watch Viki?s reaction to finding David at Dorian?s dressed like that and trying to divert her eyes from looking at him. But the real jaw dropper for me (and correct me, ladies, if I?m wrong) was the fact that I don?t remember the last time I saw a finer male specimen on this soap or any other than Tuc Watkins. Oooohhhh mama, it was a good think he was in those scenes with Erika because only she could get me to actually listen to the dialogue while watching Tuc in his undies. Whew, okay, now I?m back in control.
How funny was David, just walking up to the refrigerator like that and drinking the orange juice out of the pitcher? I think it?s so funny how David thinks he has such a rapport with Viki and just nonchalantly asked her for a job, so sure she?d keep him in mind. And leave it to David, when Viki told him to please go put on some clothes, to go and toss an apron around his neck. I could hardly contain my laughter.
More on David later, but right now back to Viki. For me, the best scenes of the week were the ones with Viki and Starr. I have always loved the relationship between Starr and her Aunt Viki and how Viki is the one person Starr always knows she can go to when she needs a does of sanity and understanding. And I have to agree with Starr; her Aunt Viki is ?outrageously cool.? And she?s almost a great grandma. It was very cool that Starr could tell Viki all about the party she went to where she could have gotten into real trouble and she knew that Viki would listen to her and not get her in trouble with her parents. Starr has grown up so much and has turned into such a nice young lady (as has her portrayer, Kristen Alderson).
Viki handled her so well, listening to her and understanding everything and especially not being upset or shocked at hearing what went on at the party. And when Starr finished the story and told Viki that she called Brittany a bitch, I thought it was a great moment when Viki told her she did just the right thing and Starr said, ?Even the bitch part?? Leave it to Viki to say, ?Well, you nailed it Starr, that?s what she is!? These are the kind of scenes that we need to see tons more of. We don?t get enough of those wonderfully emotional moments like when Starr admitted that she just wanted to be normal and she never has been because of her parents. While we?re wasting our time watching boxing matches and listening to Claudia?s drivel, we are missing precious air time with the most talented members of the cast. I hate that.
Back to David for a minute. I was so glad to see him back in Dorian?s clutches for a while. Those two are made for each other and the only time I can stand Dorian is when she?s with David, especially when I get to see them mauling each other covered in powdered sugar on top of the kitchen counter. This pairing is the only thing that makes Dorian human for me, even if she is using David, thinking it might make Clint jealous and even if she does think David can help her back in Adriana?s good graces. When Kelly walked in on them in the kitchen and I saw the look on her face, I just cracked up. I wonder how any of those actors got through that scene with a straight face. And I love Dorian?s high and might attitude when David wanted pizza and she said, ?I loathe pizza.? Who in this world loathes pizza?
Here?s what I think. I think that TPTB at One Life to Live should do whatever is in their power to get Tuc Watkins to stay on the show, even if it means giving him a private jet to shuttle him back and forth from California to New York. He?s so worth it!
