Having written an amazing CV and got through to the first and most important stage of the recruiting process, THE INTERVIEW.
Here are a list of some basic do's and don'ts when attending the face to face interview, but firstly have you asked yourself the question 'Do you actually want the job?' and if so, 'How much?': Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!!! If you don't know what the company does, where it does it nor how? This is a sure sign that your not totally interested in their business and what you can add to it.
Always best to research the company using their website beforehand and also any news articles in the press and trade press.
Know where your going.
If you are totally unsure of the venue for the interview, multimap.
com/directions is a very useful tool, along with leaving very early to ensure that you get there in plenty of time.
Late arrival for interview is a definite don't'.
Good presentation is a must, regardless of the role being applied for, there is only one chance to make a first impression, good presentation shows that you are making an effort to represent yourself well and therefore will represent them well.
In the interview, keep eye contact, answer the questions directly and take your time, but try not to ramble on or get off topic, if the interviewers eyes start to glaze, you've lost your audience.
If you don't know an answer to a question, don't bluff it.
It is better to admit that you 'don't know' than to whitter on, best to be honest.
Have questions prepared before you go in, wait until towards the end of the interview or until you are asked, as you undoubtedly will be 'if you have any questions'.
Good, valid questions, shows interest and initiative.
Finally, if you, like many people, get extremely nervous at the prospect of interview try not to drink too much coffee or smoke before hand as these will raise anxiety levels further.
