How to Install Live Audio Stage Monitors

    • 1). Position all of the audio equipment and connect it up. The feed for the onstage monitors comes from from the auxiliary outputs on the mixer. Connect these to the amplifiers and then to the loudspeakers or directly to the powered speakers, if used.

    • 2). Check to see if the system works by playing music you are familiar with through all the outputs, including the monitors. Next check that all the instruments and microphones are working.

    • 3). Set the monitor levels one performer by one performer. Create each mix by gradually turning up the auxiliary control knob on each channel in turn. By setting each knob at a level, you can balance the instruments and vocals within each mix. The auxiliary master will control the overall volume of each monitor speaker.

    • 4). Make a note of each auxiliary setting as you go. You may need to change these during the performance due to the performers changing position onstage or changing instruments.

    • 5). During the performance be aware of any changes happening onstage. Especially watch any vocalist's microphone pointing toward the monitor speakers. This will cause feedback and must be avoided at all costs.
