With the economy the way it is and more people out of work, it seems like everyone nowadays wants to make money by blogging.
While you're unemployed, be proactive, right? Yes, that's the idea.
If you're going to be home in front of your computer, why not try to make some money blogging? And there is money to be had.
This is about making money the long way.
Now, not "long" as in it'll take you a long time.
More "long" as in in the article length.
First, let's explain long tail keywords.
Long tail keywords are long search strings that can help someone find you in Google.
Let's say you have a new car blog.
For your blog, a short tail keyword may be [new cars].
If someone searches for [new cars], there's a good chance they are going to be bombarded in Google by all the big car companies.
No one is going to find your new car blog in Google.
No matter how wonderful it is.
Chances are you're going to be buried very deep in Google, say page 4 or 5.
Few people ever go to page 4 or 5 of their search.
Now a long tail keyword might be [new cars pollution problems].
Now if someone put that into Google, there's a good chance they are looking for some sort of article and not trying to buy a car, so they're probably more receptive to a blog vs.
a new car dealer.
Now if you've written an article exactly about [new cars pollution problems] then more power to you and that Google searcher may find you right away.
But what if you have a new car blog, but haven't touched directly on that subject but have touched on similar ones? This is when long articles come into play.
By writing long articles there's a better chance that you've written one of those search terms into your article and thus landing you in Google for [new cars pollution problems].
The searcher will then find you for this long tail keyword.
Obviously this doesn't mean be verbose for verbosity's sake.
You want to touch on long tail keywords by writing long articles, but if you're rambling then there's a good chance the person searching will find your article, read an excerpt then "bounce" right off of your site to somewhere else.
So write long, but don't ramble.
Now some of you may be thinking, "Okay, but how does this earn me money?" Well, if you write a long article and that helps you gain readers through Google, then you will be able to sell ads or sell products through ads.
Without readers or anyone finding your site, you're not going to make any money.
The tortoise beats the hare and all that jazz.
