- 1). Measure the length of the table add 24 inches to find the finished length of the runner. Measure the length of a bag and subtract 1 inch. Divide the length of the runner by this length. This is the number of bag sections you will need.
- 2). Lay a burlap bag out flat and cut along the folds or seams on the sides and bottom to separate the front of the bag from the back. These will be the sections of fabric you use to make the runner You may use both the fronts and backs to make the runner or you can use only the fronts, if you want each section to have a logo.
- 3). Pin the top of one section to the bottom of another section, with a 1/2-inch overlap. Sew the sections together by sewing down the center of the over lap with a wide zigzag stitch. Continue attaching sections in this way until the runner is as long as you desire. You may have to cut off the end of the last section.
- 4). Sew all the way around the runner, 1 inch from the edge with a straight stitch.
- 5). Fringe the edges of the fabric that lie beyond the seam, by pulling out the threads outside the seam that run parallel to the seam. Start with the thread on the outside edge of the fabric and pull them out one by one until you reach the straight seam. Cut these threads off on each side of the zigzag seams that join the sections together.
