- 1). Splay the legs by cutting their ends parallel at 5-degree angles with a power miter saw.
- 2). Trim the ends of all upper and lower crosspieces to fit between the legs, cutting them at opposing angles. Bevel the top edges to make them flat.
- 3). Cut a decorative curve from end-to-end on one side of the shelf skirt pieces and lower crosspieces with a jigsaw.
- 4). Use a clamp to temporarily hold one straight crosspiece and one curved lower crosspiece between two legs, on the same side. Place the straight crosspiece even with the top of the table and the curved, lower crosspiece at shelf height. The flat sides should face the inside of the table.
- 5). Drill countersink holes through the clamped crosspieces and into the legs. Screw them in place with deck screws.
- 6). Clamp and screw the other upper and lower crosspieces just as in step 4, but on the opposite side of the table.
- 7). Connect the skirt pieces to the underside of the tabletop and shelf with wood glue. Clamp the assembly between the legs. Drill pilot holes through the skirt and halfway into the crosspieces. Drill deck screws through the skirt and top to secure them to the table.
- 8). Fill holes with small wood plugs. Cut the plugs flush with the surface with a pull saw.
- 9). Sand the table with 150-grit sandpaper and wipe it clean. Apply two coats of paint in any desired color with a paint brush. If preferred, stain the table with three coats of wood stain.
