- 1). Establish a background in law. Many of the world's successful politicians start their career either in medicine, law or in the military. It is recommended that you attend school at a well known institution where you can obtain a four year background in either history, political science or sociology and then go off to law school.
- 2). After establishing a background in law, you will then need to establish tenure. After graduating law school and passing the bar exam, many South Carolina probate judges get their start in a law practice and practice there for about 5 to 10 years before either establishing their own practice or becoming a circuit judge and traveling either of those paths for at least 5 to 10 years. No matter what legal career path you choose to follow, make the best of it because it will look good later.
- 3). Finally after getting educated, embarking on your career path and getting noticed, you are now ready to run for office. As this is a political position, you will have to put a whole lot of hard work and determination into your campaign. Sixty percent of people who have ever run for probate judge in most of South Carolina's districts have run at least two or three times before finally being elected. (Some of that 60% have never been elected at all because after two attempts, they just gave it up.) Therefore, it is recommended that you always keep yourself ahead of the competition and never slack off during your campaign.
