1986 Camaro Specifications

    • The Chevrolet Camaro's third generation of production was 1982 through 1992. The 1986 model was the first and only year to have the center, high-mounted stop light mounted on the hatchback glass. Subsequent model years of the third-generation, F-body Camaro fitted this brake light on the decklid spoiler. The 1986 Chevrolet Camaro was only manufactured as a coupe model, with no convertible available, and was sold in Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, Z28 and IROC trim levels.

    Dimensions

    • The 1986 Chevrolet Camaro sits on a 101-inch wheelbase with an overall body length of 187.8 inches, width of 72 inches and height of 49.8 inches. The 1986 model year brought with it the introduction of standard 15-inch-by-7-inch rims across all trim levels, which was a 1-inch gain in diameter from the 1985 model year.

    LB8 Engine

    • The sole V-6 engine offered in the 1986 Camaro was a 2.8 L model with an overhead valve design, the same valve configuration as the entire line of 1986 Camaro engines. The LB8 V-6 engine employed multi-port fuel injection and a compression ratio of 8.9 to 1, with a maximum output of 135 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 160 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,900 rpm. This was the standard engine offered with the Sport Coupe and Berlinetta trim levels and was offered with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearboxes.

    LG4 Engine

    • The LG4 engine option was a 5.0 L V-8 engine with a compression ratio of 8.6 to 1 and a four-barrel carburetor. This engine generated 155 horsepower at 4,200 rpm, and 245 ft.-lbs. of torque at 2,000 rpm when equipped as an option in the Sport Coupe and Berlinetta models. This engine was also offered as standard equipment in the Z28 and IROC models and saw output rise by 10 horsepower and 5 ft.-lbs. of torque. This engine was offered with manual and automatic gearboxes in all trim levels except for the Berlinetta trim level, which only offered the four-speed automatic transmission.

    L69/HO Engine

    • The L69/HO engine was an optional 5.0 L V-8 offered in Z28 and IROC models. This engine was mechanically the same as the LG4, but its higher compression ratio of 9.5 to 1 resulted in a power increase. Output for this motor was rated at 190 horsepower at 4,800 rpm, and 240 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,200 rpm. The L69/HO was only available with a five-speed manual transmission.

    LB9 Engine

    • The LB9 engine was an option in the Z28 and IROC models. This 5.0 L V-8 engine was identical to the L69/HO engine, but employed tuned port injection instead of a four-barrel carburetor system. Horsepower output remained the same at 190, but this power was reachable at 4,000 rpm, while torque increased to 285 ft.-lbs. at 2,800 rpm. The LB9 engine was only mated to four-speed automatic transmissions.
