Most Christians today want to be blessed by the Lord.
The Lord likes to bless people that look after the poor.
Today people who have big ministries are always asking people to give them money, but Jesus didn't ask for people's money.
He always told people to give money to the poor and come and follow him.
Proverbs 22:9 9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.
Nine years ago I saw a tract that said that Jesus didn't just say give your money to all that ask you for it.
Jesus did not want his words wasted, he wanted people that were to follow him to bless the poor with some of our money.
In nine years of giving to people on the street, I have found that all of my money that I have given out has come back with people buying what I need.
When I went to India on a short term mission trip, my parents picked up the bill.
When I found myself living in a boarding house, my mental health worker, my case manager arranged for a place where I could learn to live by myself and when I had been there long enough, the case manager of that property helped me make an application for government housing and I ended up in an apartment that has two bedrooms for $65 per week.
When I moved into my new place, my brother bought a $1000 sofa bed that a visitor can sleep on and he my brother also bought me a computer.
The Lord has blessed me with another lounge suite when my next door neighbour wanted to give it away.
People that I know try and convince me not to give to the poor, but I smile and do it anyway, as I know that is what the Lord wants me to do.
The Lord Jesus said what you do to the very least of his brethren, you do unto him.
It takes a good hearted person to give to the poor, I encourage you to do it next time you walk past a homeless person.
