- 1). Contact the children's director at your church or your local Christian retailer for CDs and DVDs of quality Christian children's music. You may be able to borrow from a church library or from Sunday School supplies. Some Christian music websites offer free sample downloads online as well. Veteran Sunday School teachers and Christian parents can supply tunes for many classic and popular children's songs if you have words but are not familiar with the tune.
- 2). Listen to the music and familiarize yourself with the lyrics and tune before trying to teach it to the children.
- 3). Demonstrate the lyrics a few times for the children, using motions or instruments whenever possible to help keep their attention with movement. Give children who can read a copy of the lyrics, write them on the board, or project them on a screen.
- 4). Say or sing one line at a time, using any motions you intend to include, and ask children to repeat after you. Sing in this fashion two or three times through to help the children get the hang of the words and rhythm.
- 5). Add in guitar, piano, or any other instruments you have on hand for accompaniment, or turn on the CD or video for sing-along. Encourage kids to move with the motions, play along on simple percussion instruments, or dance to the music.
