- 1). Power the eXplorist to "On" by pressing and holding the "On" button for two seconds. Wait for the default screen to come up. Check that the unit is collecting data from the available overhead satellites. If the eXplorist does not pull in satellite information, check to see if the unit has just flown or traveled over 500 miles. When this occurs the unit does what Magellan calls a "cold start." The unit is used to receiving satellite signals from its home area. When it moves dramatically it needs a few extra minutes to pick up new satellite signals.
- 2). Continue to check the display screen. If the unit still does not pick up satellite signals, look to the sky and check for large amounts of tree canopy cover. If under dense tree cover, move to a clear and direct area with little to no cover and let the unit receive satellite signals.
- 3). Move to a new location if you are in rock canyons or other areas that can impede satellite signal reception.
- 1). Turn the eXplorist over and unscrew the wire battery housing. Pop the battery housing cover off and check the there are batteries in the unit. If none are there, add two AA batteries, close the cover and turn the unit on again. If there are existing batteries, remove them and replace. Turn the unit on and wait for the default screen setting.
- 2). Plug the eXplorist USB cable into the connection at the unit and into your PC. Wait for the default setting of "Transfer Tracks" to come up on the default screen. Press "Transfer" using the control stick. If the transfer does not take place, Magellan recommends turning off the eXplorist and restarting your PC. Open the PC Magellan software when the computer is turned back on.
- 3). Turn the eXplorist back on and wait for the "Transfer Tracks" to come back up. Highlight it and let the transfer take place.
