Wildwood is a vacation resort city on the southern New Jersey peninsula, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors come to the area for its boardwalk, amusement parks and water parks, but can also find plenty of things to do at nearby state parks. The location of Wildwood allows residents and visitors to take advantage of the state parks of southern Jersey, in addition to those across the Delaware Bay. - The closest state park to Wildwood is in nearby Cape May. Cape May Point State Park is a day-use facility that is the site of the Cape May Lighthouse, one of the area's notable attractions. The lighthouse was built in 1859 and stands 157 feet tall. It is still in operation to help boats at sea. Guests can climb the stairs to the top and get a view of the entire peninsula that makes up the southern end of New Jersey.
The park incorporates dunes, marshland and and forest areas, and has a number of trails that wind throughout, providing places to stop and view the local wildlife. Fishing is also available at the park, with striped bass and flounder among the available fish.

The park provides visitors with opportunities for hiking, fishing and boating. The area is filled with numerous migratory and residential wildlife species including sandpipers, gulls, herons, sanderlings and ducks.
Canoes, sailboats, motor boats and jet skis can all be seen on the park's waterways, and bluefish, kingfish and striped bass are available for visiting anglers.

The park includes two swimming beaches where visitors can enjoy ocean fishing. The state park has a picnic pavilion and a club house that can be rented for group events. It also features an 18-hole disc golf course and basketball courts for those who are looking for some competitive sports action.
Cape Henlopen hosts a yearly kite festival and offers hiking and biking trails, some of which run along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. History lovers may visit the park's World War II Observation Tower or the military bunker that is also inside the park.
