A growing number of people are battling insomnia, yet do nothing, thereby jeopardizing their health.
Left untreated, insomnia can have huge negative impact on a person's quality of life or even longevity.
Just take a look at a person who has been sleep-deprived for months - he/she lacks concentration and always feels very tired during the day, and even if only simple tasks have been completed, the person feels fatigued easily.
In severe cases, insomnia may last over a year and may trigger depression or dependency on alcohol or drugs to catch some shut-eye.
Unlike the occasional inability to sleep (which may be caused by any of a variety of factors like a cluttered bedroom, thoughts about work or personal problems, or using inferior mattress and pillows) which can be easily remedied, severe insomnia brought on by prolonged stress, a physical condition or psychiatric problems requires longer, more intensive treatment.
Middle insomnia, on the other hand, is a sleeping disorder whereby people constantly awaken in the middle of the night and are unable to drift back to sleep.
At other times, they wake up in the wee hours of the morning.
Bring these sleep disorders to the attention of a doctor.
Older people on the other hand who are already retired and have pensions experience this insomnia in a lesser scale probably due to less stress factors.
Proper diet, exercise and enough rest are the sure ways in order to naturally combat this sleeping illness without having to resort to medicines and other drugs in the process.
