Home Remedies: Toilet Bowl Cleaner

    Home Remedies

    • Toss three or four denture-cleaning tablets in your toilet and let them sit overnight. In the morning, scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and flush.

Try borax. Pour a cup into the bowl, let it sit overnight, clean as usual and flush. To clean an especially dirty bowl, according to Cheap-and-easy-recipes.com, spray it with white vinegar first, and then add the borax.

You may find a toilet bowl cleaner in your refrigerator: Pou ra bottle of cola around the bowl, let sit overnight, and scrub and flush in the morning.

For stains on your toilet bowl, don some plastic gloves and mix a thick paste by adding borax to the juice of a lemon. Apply this to the stained area, let sit for 15 minutes and scrub.

You can drop two or three chewable vitamin C tablets into your bowl. Let sit for an hour, and then clean the bowl.

If you enjoy using essential oils, you can use them to make your own toilet bowl cleaner. Mix together 1 1/2 cups white vinegar with five to 10 drops of green tea oil. Sprinkle 1/4 cup salt and 1 cup baking soda into your bowl. Slowly pour the vinegar mixture into the bowl. This will cause a foaming action. If the foam rises too high, stop pouring until it settles down. Let sit for 15 minutes and scrub as usual.

    Considerations

    • Flushing after each use helps your bowl to stay clean. Most newer homes have water-saving toilets, but even if you have the old-fashioned bowls, the cleanliness may be worth the water you waste when you flush with every use. Look into buying flush dams to put in an older toilet tank to cut down on the amount of water used per flush.
