- 1). Choose your hunting location. Both deep-water and shoal-water ducks tend to thrive around small rush-surrounded ponds in cornfields. Duck hunting is best during snowstorms and heavy windstorms.
- 2). Set up realistic-looking duck decoys around the edge of the pond, facing different directions. It is essential to use a variety of duck decoys, and to place the decoys in natural-looking positions.
- 3). Put on a lightweight waterfowl camouflage rain suit to blend in with the habitat. Wear rubber boots to protect your feet in the swampy habitat.
- 4). Load a pump shotgun with shells. If you are not sure how to load the gun, read the manufacturer's directions in the gun owner's manual.
- 5). Hide in the cornfield or underbrush surrounding the pond until you spot a flock of wild ducks. When the ducks are within range, approach them with the wind to your back.
- 6). Aim the shotgun at a low-flying duck. Pull the trigger on the gun with your finger.
